These days almost everybody is using a digital camera, they have really taken over from analog photography. However not everybody has made the switch, there are some people who still prefer to shoot with film. In large part this is limited to professionals and the serious hobby photographer. The main reason for that is that analog photography is a lot more difficult. This raises the obvious question of why there are people who prefer to take pictures on film instead of with a digital camera.
The main reason that some people prefer analog photography is that you actually can get a better picture quality with film than you can with a digital camera. The major caveat on this is that in order to do this you need to actually be a skilled photographer. One of the main reasons that digital pictures have become so popular is that it is pretty hard to screw them up; almost anybody can get acceptable photos with a digital camera. This is not the case with film, it takes a highly skilled photographer to get a good picture but if you have those skills you can get a better picture than you could with digital.
The main reason that you can get better pictures with analog photography is that the resolution is better. A lot of people are confused by this concept and they talk a lot about things like pixel sizes on their digital camera. The truth is that no digital camera can match film when it comes to resolution. If the image that you take is small enough you can get a level of resolution that is comparable with a digital camera but as soon as you start taking larger images the difference shows up pretty fast.
The other thing that film offers over digital photos is that there is a much broader range of colors. Again this is not something that is going to show up in the way that most people use a camera but if you are skilled photographer taking a picture with a lot of colors in it like a landscape the difference starts to become very obvious. There is just no way that a digital camera can produce the same range of colors that you can get from an analog camera.
Analog photography is also far superior to digital cameras when it comes to things like different exposures. A lot of photographers like to take pictures using double exposures; this is something that virtually no digital camera can do. You can also take long exposures with an analog camera and while you can do this with a digital camera the results are almost always bad. Shooting with film allows you to do things that you couldn't do with a digital camera which allows the photographer a much greater range of ways that they can show off their art.
